Bananas in Pyjamas: Atheists face death threats on Fox Facebook page; re: 9/11 cross

    abaldwin360:

    [SOURCE]

American Atheists argue that inclusion of the 9/11 cross and the exclusion of representations suitable to non-Christians constitutes a violation of the First and Fourteenth Amendments to the Constitution of the United States.

Apparently for many self identified Christians, the request by atheists for fair and equal treatment under the law was too much to handle. The explosion of hate coming off the Fox News Facebook page is alarming.

Some more hate spewing from Christians on Fox News’ Facebook page, I posted some of these yesterday, but came across this article, which had even more screen caps, and I feel this can’t be re-blogged enough, this needs as much attention as possible, moderates need to call out the more hateful aspects of their religion, someone needs to let these people know that this kind of behavior is unacceptable.

This, this right here is why I have a problem with religion, look at these people, they sound an awful lot like terrorists don’t they?

These people hold no value on a fellow human’s life just because they don’t believe the same as they do, and people wonder why I’m angry, why I’m worried about what kind of world my children will be living in.

I especially love the guy who says “few groups are filled with more hatred than atheists” how ironic.

Someone please explain to me how this is justified?

    These are evil people.

    Just…. Wow. Ghandi was right.

I am reblogging even though this is off-topic from my blog. As an atheist, I really think there needs to be more done in this country to move towards acceptance. Few minorities in this country seem to garner such unflagging displays of hatred. And that’s quite ironic, since our founding fathers moved here to ESCAPE religious persecution—that means having the freedom to practice the religions they wanted but it also means having the freedom to NOT practice the religions they didn’t want. If you want to have the freedom to practice your religion, then you have to give others the choice to not practice your religion. (After all, if you are, say, a Christian you are actively NOT practicing judaism, hinduism, buddhism, etc. If you want to have the freedom to not practice other religions, then you need to extend that courtesy to atheists who only choose to practice one fewer religion than you do.) Once you create a dichotomy like this and back it with death threats, you are removing the very freedom you so strongly claim to uphold.

    That is all.

That awkward moment when there is no mention of God anywhere in the Constitution, and the mention of religion in Article 6 (The First Amendment) serves to separate government from religion, and yet people still believe you have to be Christian to be American?
